Wanstead Flats History Walks No. 2: Aldersbrook Flats

This is the largest single area of Wanstead Flats, with grassland, copses, mown areas for sports, a pond and a lake. It was the scene, on a number of occasions in the past two centuries, of struggles against attempts to change the nature of the Flats by enclosure and building. There are few signs now of the former uses of Wanstead
Flats, but this walk takes in those that are left and recounts some of the tumultuous history of the Flats.
